The spirit lives on

Kane was a foreigner in a new land. A land that was new to him, but as old as time itself. The people of this land held on to their animist beliefs and culture like bubble gum stuck on the bottom of a shoe. That is, on the surface it was not apparent, but digging deeper into the trenches of the bottom of the shoe one could see the essence wedged in here and there.

As a foreigner Kane walked up and down the streets, never knowing where he was going, lost in his own mind as much as he was lost walking the streets. The lord and saviour, Christ, had no standing in a place like this. The natives were prescribed as savages by such points of view. But the natives saw those encapsulated in such perspectives as an animal at a complete loss of reason. An animal that could not admit to itself that it was just that, another animal. The natives spat over their shoulders as Kane walked past. Kane, oblivious to a fine point, paid them no notice.

He was hungry and the sun was at the centre of the sky. That meant it was midday, that said, lunch was nearing and the hunger settled upon his stomach. When it settled upon his stomach, it rumbled. And so he decided to take a walk to find some food. And that is where he now found himself. Walking the streets. Searching for something to fill the bottomless pit that had been created. The never ending hunger that had been created by a spiritually impoverished upbringing.

Oblivious to what he was purchasing he bought a mix of fried food objects. They smiled and handed him over a bag of food. He began walking back home to his abode. Snacking on the bag of fried goods. Pumpkin, banana, different things. Vegetables of all sorts. And then he came across something else. It was of an odd taste. Squishy, wrapped up into a little ball. He found the taste horrid and so he spat it out. After that point he was hungry no longer.

Later that evening a sickness came over him that he could not comprehend. His body went into a convulsive seizure. That was, his mind started to convulse in thoughts. He felt a great spirit taking over him. He did not understand it.

Across the road from the house, where he was temporarily staying, a man played guitar. It was a sweet song. It put him at ease and then he closed his eyes.

A vision of a great day passed through in his dreams. Where he had woken up in his dreams and went over to talk to the man across the road who had played the guitar. The man had explained to him that what he had eaten was the eyeball of his dead friend who had died in a motorcycle accident. He had picked up the remains of his dead friend and performed a ritual of passing. He explained that the ritual of passing was where one is given the remains of a dead friend to an unsuspecting foreigner to eat their eyeball. If they swallow the eyeball, then the spirit of the deceased will inhabit the vessel of the unsuspecting individual forever. If they spit it out, then they will have only one day left to spend with their deceased friend.

The man who played the guitar, explained how an incantation must be said over the remains of the dead friend for the ritual to take place. He explained that because the ritual had taken place the knowledge of the deceased would pass on to the unsuspecting individual. But now, the friend who had performed the ritual and his deceased friend only had one more day to spend together.

For the rest of the day they went out and drank beer, ate food and talked about old times. He, Kane, was this man’s old friend, but only for one day. The day passed and then they both went to bed. To rest until the cycle of reincarnation passed on. Until the remains of the dead became fertilizer for the grass, until the worms ate the remains, until the birds ate the worms, until the cats and dogs ate the birds, until the rats ate the dogs and cats, until the rats were eaten by fish, by having their remains thrown in the sea, until the fish were eaten by men and women, until the spirit formed once again and became whole. They would see one another in the future at some point.

Kane woke up from his dream. He looked at his phone which told the time and date. A day had passed. Was it a dream or did he forget to account for the time zone difference when he brought his phone across from overseas?

Suena como una buena oportunidad, lo único que me interesa es saber cuánto tiempo llevaría hacer un lote de velas de principio a fin.
